  The crew of the Enterprise travel into the past to the year 2063 in an attempt to save Earth from being conquered by the Borgs, a race of cyborg-like beings that take the traits of those they encounter by taking over their victims' bodies and fusing it into their own. The Borgs want to stop a scientist the day before he becomes the first human to be contacted by an alien form, changing the course of human events forever.

Jonathan Frakes joins Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner in the line of Star Trek actors who have taken the helm at directing one of the features, and he does an impressive job in his first outing. Some may be turned off by the dark atmosphere of the movie, as it is reminiscent of INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS in both plot and tone. The story is well-thought out and the acting is quite good from this cast of former television actors. Highly recommended for fans of the series.
